Hospital construction opportunities

Tendering opportunities stemming from multimillion-dollar developments at Toowoomba’s three major hospitals will be highlighted at a forum in May.

Attendees at Toowoomba and Surat Basin Enterprise’s networking event will hear from representatives from St Vincent’s Private Hospital, St Andrew’s Toowoomba Hospital and Toowoomba Hospital.

St Vincent’s is investing $30 million on six new operating theatres, St Andrew’s Toowoomba Hospital has invested in expanding its medical services, and Toowoomba Hospital is set to expand its services with more than $27.5million in projects.

Hutchinson Builders is leading the construction work at St Vincent’s where director of clinical services Malcolm Casey said progress on the redevelopment was ahead of schedule.

The project includes six new operating theatres, a 16-bed recovery area and a new day surgery unit, with completion estimated for early 2018.

The new theatres are named after Toowoomba philanthropist Clive Berghofer who donated $5 million to kick-start the project.

St Andrew’s Toowoomba chief executive officer Ray Fairweather said that hospital planned to enlarge the waiting area for the surgical admissions area at a cost of about $2.4 million, with provision for a third endoscopy room, and that plans for a new $6 million mental health unit were under consideration.

Darling Downs Hospital and Health Service chief executive Dr Peter Gillies said works at the Toowoomba Hospital included a $2.7 million project to build the seventh general operating theatre and a $3 million emergency department upgrade project.

The Toowoomba Hospital Kitchen Project will provide a new kitchen to serve the campus with a budget of $9.76 million.

Installation of an additional electrical substation at the Toowoomba Hospital, including switchboard upgrades and generator installation has a budget of $2.5million.

A $1.3 million project to replace chillers in the Emma Webb building has been awarded to FKG Group.

More details will be available at Toowoomba and Surat Basin Enterprise’s May 11 Enterprise Evening, at Highfields Cultural Centre, from 5.30pm until 8.30pm. (See https://www.tsbe.com.au/events/may-enterprise-evening)
