Help offered to businesses affected by flooding

The State Government is implementing relief measures to help Townsville’s small businesses impacted by the severe flooding.

Minister for Employment and Small Business, Shannon Fentiman, welcomed the activation of “Category B disaster assistance” for small business affected by the monsoon event.

“Business owners in Townsville are experiencing significant rainfall and flooding this week and we are here to assist and support the communities affected,” Ms Fentiman said.

“The disaster assistance includes concessional loans of up to $250,000 and essential working capital loans of up to $100,000 for small businesses in the Townsville local government area.”

Small business owners impacted by flooding can call the Queensland Rural and Industry Development Authority on 1800 623 946 for assistance and information on the concessional loans that are available.

The Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements are jointly funded by the Commonwealth and Queensland governments.

Through these programs, funds are provided to alleviate the costs of relief and recovery activities undertaken in disaster-affected communities.

“We are keen to connect with small business owners as soon as possible to identify what is needed most to help during this challenging time,” Ms Fentiman said.

“The Department of Employment, Small Business and Training is collecting data through an online survey to help us understand the impact on affected businesses and what assistance is required.

“I encourage affected small businesses to have their say so we can provide the help that’s needed.

“Staff will be on the ground in the region as soon as the weather conditions allow to support assessments and link business owners with assistance.”
