$33m building opportunity on Cape York

There’s a big opportunity for builders in the Cape York community of Aurukun where tenders have been called for a $33.5 million strategic housing development.

The project would provide a significant boost to the local economy with two years of ongoing construction, Housing and Public Works Minister Mick de Brenni said.

“This project will build 27 houses and units for our frontline workers – teachers and police who are dedicated to improving outcomes for our remote communities,” Mr de Brenni said.

“It will also build 17 social housing properties, including six accommodation units for seniors, to support older people to live in their own community as they age.

“We have chosen to carefully package a tender for a construction delivery program valued at over $33.5 million.

“The tender arrangements for this work will have a unique, ‘buy local, employ local’ arrangement.

“Building companies who participate in programs that deliver local indigenous employment outcomes will be preferred to win the work.”

The project is scheduled to begin in June 2017.

Firms wishing to qualify for Government building and construction work and to identify open tenders are encouraged to log onto www.qld.gov.au/gov/building-services or speak with Building and Asset Services on 07 3008 3392.
