The depressed resources sector in Central Queensland is looking up.
That’s come with the news that there are 77 local mine lease applications currently in the works.
The Queensland Department of Natural Resources and Mines delivered the news this week at the Rockhampton Regional Growth Seminar.
It was well received by the Gladstone Engineering Alliance who’s CEO Carli Homann said there was more to be optimistic about.
Ontop of the new leases, there was another $2.3 billion in approved projects ready to go in the Bowen Basin, Ms Homann said.
“…most of all that means supply opportunities for local businesses and jobs for local workers,” she said.
Supplier briefings were delivered by Adani Australia regional content manager Ben Hughes and Mick Allen from Building and Asset Services (BAS) on the $200 Million expansion of the Capricornia Correction Centre.
The last few years had been difficult for many businesses, said Ms Homann.
“… from all indications it really looks like Central Queensland has turned a corner with some major projects worth billions of dollars for the Central Queensland economy now in the works,” she said.
