Sedgman has been awarded contracts worth about $40 million for the reconfiguration, refurbishment and operational readiness of New Century Resources’  Lawn Hill processing plant facility and Karumba port.

The contracts cover engineering, procurement, construction and operational readiness.

“The Century Zinc mine is an important part of the Queensland mining industry and we are looking forward to re-starting the mine and using our technical expertise to achieve successful outcomes for our client,” Sedgman managing director Grant Fraser said.

In November 2017 Sedgman, in collaboration with New Century Resources, completed a feasibility study on the restart of the Century zinc mine, concentrate pipeline and Karumba port.

Early works at the site commenced in December 2017 and the project is on track to re-commence production in the third quarter of 2018.

New Century said the remainder of the Century processing plant and Karumba port refurbishment and commissioning
process was expected to take up to five months, in line with the planned scheduled for operations to commence in the third quarter of this year.
