Construction of MSF Sugar’s $75 million Tableland Green Energy Power Plant is on track for a mid-2018 completion.
Activity so far in 2018 has included erection of a 38.35m chimney stack for the 24MW bagasse-fired plant.
Assembly of the plant’s furnace chamber, cooling tower, steam transformer and the high and low-voltage electrical switchrooms was also completed in January.
Construction company Goodline is working with EPC contractor Thyssenkrupp Industrial Solutions on the project – expected to be the first of four green energy power plants to be built at MSF Sugar operations across Queensland.
A site workforce of 50-80 workers is expected to increase to 150 in the next month as construction moves towards a mid-year completion.
MSF Sugar said the civil works and earthworks for the project were completed on site in October 2017.
Since then, several major construction milestones have been reached including the arrival of the $18 million steam turbine generator package in November.
A cargo ship is due to arrive in Cairns this month carrying structural and fabricated steel for flue gas interconnections.
An MSF spokeswoman said the plant’s boiler was expected to be hydro tested in March, with other major commissioning activities scheduled to take place in June.
