Hann Highway sealing full steam ahead

Hann Highway sealing works are the centrepiece of a $84.27 million road construction program planned for north-west Queensland this financial year.

Department of Transport and Main Roads Deputy Director-General of Infrastructure Management and Delivery Amanda Yeates said $50 million was being invested in 2018/19 on the Kennedy Developmental Rd (Hann Highway) works between The Lynd and Hughenden.

The 2018/19 spend for the North West District also includes $8.485 million in funding to local governments through the Transport Infrastructure Development Scheme (TIDS) to support the development of transport related infrastructure.“A total of six projects are being delivered; three by Flinders Shire Council and three by Etheridge Shire Council,” Ms Yeates said.

Work has begun on the construction of a new two-lane concrete bridge over Beames Brook Bridge on the Wills Developmental Road, south of Burketown, for a total cost of $5.98 million.

“These works are funded under the Australian Government’s Bridges Renewal Program (BRP),” Ms Yeates said.

“The precast tender was awarded in April and construction will be undertaken by RoadTek and will be completed by November, weather permitting.”

Nine intersections will be upgraded in Mount Isa on the Barkly Highway for a total cost of $6.2 million, funded under the Northern Australia Roads Program. These works will be delivered under an open tender contract and are expected to start by March 2019.

Ms Yeates said works were continuing on the replacement of seven culverts on the Flinders Highway between Charters Towers and Hughenden.

Under the Northern Australia Beef Roads Program, RoadTek has started sealing a 4.5km section of the Cloncurry – Dajarra Road for a total cost of $3.22 million. RoadTek are delivering the works.

Work to seal and widen a 4km section of the Richmond-Croydon Road for a total cost of $5.2 million is also being funded under the Northern Australia Beef Roads Program.

Croydon Shire Council and Richmond Shire Council are delivering these works, which are expected to be complete in October.
