Call for interest in Carmichael coal jobs

Adani Mining is seeking expressions of interest for a range of roles linked to the $2 billion Carmichael coal project in central Queensland.

It comes after chief executive officer Lucas Dow announced in Mackay last week that Adani Group had committed to financing the project 100 per cent and construction and operation of the mine would now begin.

Meanwhile the Environmental Defenders Office Queensland yesterday reported it had a lodged a challenge in the Federal Court on behalf of the Australian Conservation Foundation, seeking a judicial review of the decision to allow assessment of Adani’s North Galilee Water Scheme to proceed without applying the water trigger under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999. The Carmichael coal proposal has been scaled back from a planned $16.5 billion project including a standard gauge 388km rail line, additional terminal at Abbot Point and a 60Mtpa mine complex.

Adani Mining chief executive officer Lucas Dow.

Adani plans a 200km narrow gauge rail development and says it will ramp up gradually to 27.5Mtpa of coal production, reducing upfront investment and speeding the project’s delivery time.

Mr Dow has told business gatherings that the project will create about 1500 jobs associated with the mine and rail during the initial construction and ramp-up (see slide below).
