Plans for an $11.5 million expansion to the Lower Burdekin Home for the Aged Ayr campus will be showcased during an Industry Breakfast at the Burdekin Theatre next week.
The development will be conducted in two stages and involves the construction of a two-storey building to accommodate a further 80 beds.
“Lower Burdekin Home for the Age first revealed intentions to expand the site earlier this week when they released three artist conceptions of the proposed designs,” Burdekin Shire Council Mayor Lyn McLaughlin said.
“Council is delighted to announce that, as part of the upcoming Burdekin Industry Breakfast on Wednesday 24 October, we will have Lower Burdekin Home for the Aged’s general manager Jim Collins and communications consultant Madonna Simmons to share even more about the plans and potential contract opportunities.
“This is a significant investment in the aged care sector within our community, which presents substantial opportunities for local businesses to benefit from.”
Attendees will also hear from Local Buy regional client relationship manager Emma Peter.
“Emma will provide an overview of Local Buy and information on how local businesses can access local government contracts,” Cr McLaughlin said.
Owned by the Local Government Association of Queensland (LGAQ), Local Buy has established more than 40 prequalified supplier arrangements for Councils since 2012.
Through this platform, councils are able to access a range of goods and services through a quotation rather than a tender process.
“The Burdekin is home to a number of businesses that could access a range of contracts including civil construction and road resurfacing, electricity, office and stationary supplies, oils and lubricants, pipes, pumps and concrete products, trucks, tyres, tubes and batteries,” Cr McLaughlin said.
