Thirty-six Queensland projects will share more than $12 million under a new round of Black Spot program funding announced this week.
They include more than $1.5 million for a new roundabout on Mount Low Parkway, Townsville.
Infrastructure and Transport Minister Michael McCormack listed more than 100 successful projects across Queensland, New South Wales and Western Australia to receive a $32.9 million funding boost under the 2018-19 Black Spot Program.
“These 144 projects will fix some of the most notorious areas in the country and I am glad to announce approximately half the total funding is allocated to Black Spots in regional areas,” he said.
“Accidents on our roads cost Australians approximately $30 billion per year—let alone the pain borne by families and friends who have lost loved ones.”
He said the Coalition Government had extended the Black Spot Program and was providing $60 million per year from 2021-22 onwards, building on the current $684.5 million investment from 2013-14 to 2020-21.
Projects for the remaining States and Territories will be announced over the coming months as the consultative panels finalise their respective processes.
