The north’s economic fortunes are looking up.
More than $39 billion linked to development over the next five years has been identified in the Queensland Major Projects Pipeline report.
North Queensland was identified as the region with the strongest growth potential, said Infrastructure Association of Queensland (IAQ) CEO Steve Abson.
The opportunities are being presented at the upcoming ‘Our North, Our future – the Vision for Northern Queensland Infrastructure’ event in Townsville.
RDA Committee Acting Chair Frank Beveridge said future development and employment opportunities for the region will be the focus of the event.
“The event will outline the opportunities involved in transitioning the region and what this means for the Queensland infrastructure industry,” Mr Beveridge said.
Special guest speakers include the Minister for Resources and Northern Australia Senator Matt Canavan and Senior Economist at BIS Oxford Economics Adrian Hart.
Senator Canavan will discuss the Australian Government’s strategies for the development of northern Australia, in the short, medium and long-term.
The Project Pipeline report was commissioned by IAQ, Queensland Major Contractors Association and Construction Skills Queensland.
The breakfast event will be held from 7.15am at the Townsville RSL Club on 20th July and will be followed by an Infrastructure Tour, which will include a briefing and on-site tour of the Townsville port and a tour of the State Development Area to see the proposed rail corridor.
